But it does not Begin to cover the Losses Sustained

 

The insurance of the opera house building was all placed by Charles M. Armstrong and covers building fixtures, scenery, etc., under a general form. The following is a list of companies:

The Gilbert’s Loss

 

Gilbert & Co boots and shoes, are heavy losers. Mr. Gilbert estimated their stock at $35,000 with an insurance of only about $11,000, in the following companies:

Peter Sattler’s Loss

 

Peter Sattler, harness dealer, carried $6,000 in the following companies:

 

Rhode Island Underwriters     $1,000

Providence Washington(RI)   $1,000

Franklin of Philadelphia           $1,000

Connecticut, of Hartford          $1,000

American, of Newark              $1,000

Milwaukee Mechanics             $1,000

 

Total                                        $6.000

 

The Boos building, occupied by Mr. Sattler, was insured for $2,000 in the Westchester of New York.

 

T.D. Parker’s Insurance

 

T.D. Parker had policies as follows:

 

Farragut                                  $700

Providence, Washington        1,500

Franklin                                   1,500

 

Total                                        $3,700

 

His loss will not exceed $100 or $200.

 

Other Losses

 

The Opera Saloon was insured for $1,000 in the Connecticut of Hartford. Wm. Oechsler. Crockery, carried an in insurance of $5,000 as follows:

Phoenix, Hartford                    1,000

Niagra                                      1,000

 

Mr. Oechsler estimates his stock at $8,000, on which it is thought there will be but little salvage.

 

F.S. Gibson, commission merchant, will lose about $1,00, and is said to have no insurance.

 

S.Wolff, cigars and tobacco, estimates his loss at $6,000, with insurance in the following companies:

Total Loss

 

The total loss to companies is estimated, roughly, at about $70,000 by experienced underwriters.

 

Among the local agencies interested are: O.M. Armstrong, Detwiler, Merrill, Jackson & Ketcham, A.F.Colton, V.Braun, Brown & Dodge, Oshorne, Wright and Russell and Schafmaster & Baker.
